The wealthy founder of the Binance cryptocurrency exchange once instructed his colleagues that it is "better to ask for forgiveness than permission" when it comes to complying with the law, according to the US authorities. On Tuesday, Changpeng "CZ" Zhao was due to ask for forgiveness, but prosecutors were not in the mood to grant it. In a court filing before his sentencing hearing, they cited the flippant attitude displayed in this and other remarks as one of the reasons they recommended the court sentence him to three years in prison — longer than the guidelines prescribe — following his guilty plea to violating anti-money laundering laws in November.
